We arrived to hoards of tourists in the main center of town. The shopping area goes on forever almost.
Many of the buildings are huge and are brick with green accents.
The money was very challenging at first. The Krone or Kroner is worth 15 US cents, so 6 1/2 Kroner equal a US dollar. Some things are tourist priced in the center and it takes a little time to get it. The largest coin is a 20 Kroner worth about $3 US and in Europe coins are used for many of the automated machines but not paper so you are always jingling with coins in your pocket. My bike rental from my hotel was 100 Kroner ($15 US) for the day and you had to turn the keys to the bike in by midnight to the front desk.
I rented my bike from the hotel by the day. I got the last one so Bob decided to rent an hourly bike at 25 kroner (about $3.50) per hour. He rode for 3 hours and was biked out. Not me of course. The hourly rental bikes have a 8 inch screen, GPS and maps and tourist info so they are quite handy for the visitor.
The entrance of Tivoli Gardens is in the center of town and it is a first class operation. When Roy Disney Sr. was traveling around Europe looking at castles to get ideas for Disneyland he visited Tivoli Gardens and brought Walt over to see it. They were so impressed that they used it as a model for how a theme park should feel and be run. It has rollercoasters and other rides and very nice gardens.
Tivoli Gardens has lots of pretty gardens as well as rides. I took this photo through the fence. It has entrances on all 4 sides.
I looked up and saw this amazing artwork on this old building while riding in the bike lane and stopped to take this photo.
The police cars and taxis are almost always Mercedes Benz and many are wagons like this one.
This canal is very famous and full of Tourists, shops, bars and restaurants.
The tour boats keep coming and going and the give you a nice view of the coast but a lot more can be seen by bike I think.
It does have some similarities to Amsterdam, but its not Amsterdam.
A cool building next to a park.
The famous mermaid by the sea statue is a crowd pleaser thats out by the port, but can easily be reached by bike.
An old wooden motor yacht.
This was in the harbor and I overheard some people talking that they thought is was the Royal family's yacht. Not sure though.
I rode through some quiet residential areas and they were very quiet.
My timing was good, I heard the music coming toward me and waited for them to arrive. I to a video and this is a still from it.
I was taking this picture of the Danish Royal Palace when the band came marching down the street.
Here I am with my rental bike from the hostal, the basket comes in handy.
I stopped and talked to 2 Americans (a mother and daughter) and we watched as this wedding couple came zipping by on a bike taxi.
Some of the architecture is really unique to Denmark.
I bike passed the entrance of this park and went down the street and got some food and came back for a little picnic.
I like gelato, so when I see a good display of gelato I have to show some restraint.
Bob and I weretaking a stroll before sending him off to the airport.
A cool statue down near the port. I believe he was a famous Danish explorer.
Boat buses are scattered around the city and water is plentiful.
I found the fort "Kastellet" which is one the most fortified places in Northern Europe.
Part of it is still used by the Danish Military, but the grounds are enjoyed by the public.
